UNC Satir program gearing up for 3rd annual workshop

The UNC Satir program is gearing up for its 3rd annual week-long intensive workshop– an experiential training for social workers, therapists, counselors, and other professionals in the model developed by family therapy pioneer Virginia Satir. The workshop will take place at Extraordinary Ventures in Chapel Hill from July 17-22.

The Satir method proposes a family communication paradigm, which was developed in the 1960s, and focuses on self-awareness and the discovery of inner strengths to help individuals, couples, and families better cope with stress and change and ways to create more positive relationships with others.

This year’s workshop will again be facilitated by Jean McLendon and Hugh Gratz. McLendon is a licensed clinical social worker, past president of the Virginia Satir Global Network and the current director of curriculum development and training for UNC Satir. Gratz is a former member of Virginia Satir’s training staff and a licensed clinical social worker.

Training participants can earn up to 40 hours of continuing education credits. The cost to attend is $1,500 per person, which covers tuition, course materials, three meals as well as snacks and beverages.
