Professor Kim Strom-Gottfried and Clinical Professor Anne Jones were featured in separate articles in the the May/June 2016 issue of Social Work Today. Strom-Gottfried was quoted in the article, “Moral Distress in Social Work Practice — When Workplace and Conscience Collide, ” and Jones was quoted in the article, “Social Services Innovations: Online Patient Communities.”
An article about Strom-Gottfried’s training work in Saudi Arabia was also picked up by UNC Global and the Carolina Center for the Study of the Middle East and Muslim Civilizations.
Professor Rebecca Macy’s latest research study on the impact of using yoga to treat people with mental health problems was featured in the “Social Work in the Public Eye” section of the NASW News.
Assistant Professor Latoya Small was featured in the article, “Small Receives Grant to Support Research in South Africa,” on UNC Global’s news site. Small was awarded $150,000 for a project that aims to empower HIV-infected youth to maintain their medicine regime, avoid risky behaviors and encourage family members to fully participate in their healthcare.
Clinical Instructor Annie Francis was featured in an alumni spotlight on the website of UNC’s Alumni Committee on Racial and Ethnic Diversity.
Clinical Assistant Professor Jodi Flick was the guest speaker on WUNC radio’s, “The Measure of Everyday Life” program with host Brian Southwell. Flick spoke on understanding suicide, preventing suicide and responding to family and friends afterward.
Clinical Assistant Professor Bebe Smith appeared with UNC graduate, writer and mixed media documentary maker Dawn Dreyer on NC Now on WUNC-TV to discuss Dreyer’s animated feature-length documentary, “Bipolar Girl Rules the World and Other Stories,” which focuses on individual experiences of living with mental illness.
