MSW student Brye Balkum was selected as a fellow in the Council on Social Work Education’s (CSWE) Minority Fellowship Program (MFP), in the Now is the Time: MFP-Youth Master’s Student Cohort. The fellowship for advanced social work master’s students is funded by a grant from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. The fellowship offers financial and other supports to direct-practice focused students who are committed to providing mental health services to at-risk children, adolescents, and young adults aged 16–25 in underserved minority communities. Fellows will also have the opportunity to participate in MFP training and professional development activities.
Doctoral student Laurie Graham is now leading the Royster Advanced Mentoring Program as a Royster Fellow. The program had their orientation meeting on Sept. 30 and have been able to pair 59 undergraduate mentees from the Carolina Covenant Scholars program with 42 Royster Fellows across many disciplines for one-on-one mentorship.
