Social work journal accepting manuscripts for special edition on women’s issues

UNC School of Social Work Professor Iris Carlton-LaNey, Ph.D., is co-editing a special issue of the journal Social Work, published by NASW Press, entitled, “Women’s Issues in Social Work Revisited.” The publisher is currently accepting manuscripts for consideration:

In 1976, Social Work published a Special Issue on Women that examined violence against women, feminist therapy, gender discrimination and salary inequity, welfare, work-home balance, gender role stereotyping, and attitudes toward women in the workplace.

Despite advancements, women continue to make less money and obtain fewer senior management positions within social work practice and education. The overarching goal of this special issue, supported by the NASW National Committee on Women, is to describe the gains that have been made and provide recommendations for improvement in the profession and in practice. This special issue will focus on historical and contemporary practices, interventions, and policies developed by women or for women. It will also include new information on female social welfare pioneers who have made unique contributions to social work practice. We are also interested in manuscripts that focus on the study of gender-based approaches in different areas of social work practice, and theoretical applications of feminist and womanist theory in social work practice. In addition, we welcome manuscripts that examine challenges, strengths, and opportunities for women in social work practice. To celebrate the diversity within and among women, we want to include articles that examine issues representing diverse groups of women.

The deadline for manuscript submission is Dec. 15, 2014. The journal encourages submission of full-length articles, practice updates, and commentary. Full-length articles should be no more than 20 double-spaced pages in length. To prepare your manuscript in proper format for submission, view Writing for NASW Press: Information for Authors on our website. Please submit manuscripts as Word documents through the online submission portal (initial, onetime registration is required) and indicate that your submission is intended for the special issue: “Women’s Issues in Social Work Revisited.”
