Faculty briefs

Gary Cuddeback has been granted tenure and promotion to Associate Professor by the UNC Board of Trustees.

Jodi Flick conducted trainings on “Depression and Suicide in Children and Adolescents” on June 4 in Greenville; “Suicide and the Military” on May 30 in Lumberton; and “Advanced Issues in Suicide: Prevention, Intervention and Postvention” in Charlotte on May 16 and Greensboro on May 13.

Matthew Howard was invited to present the Edith Harris Endowed Memorial Lecture at Wayne State University School of Social Work, on Nov. 6. He will address the topic, “Recent Developments in the Behavioral Addictions.” Howard also presented a talk, “Contemporary Addictions Treatments,” on Social Work Day at the Durham VA Medical Center in April.

Anne Jones presented in Calgary, Canada on June 6 at the International Association for Social Work with Groups. She presented her paper entitled, “Where Are All the Men? Engaging and Retaining Low-Resourced Males in Groups.” The UNC School of Social Work and the Social Work Department at N.C. State will be jointly hosting next year’s symposium in Chapel Hill in June 2015.

Paul Lanier is presenting at the American Professional Society on the Abuse of Children (APSAC) 22nd Annual Colloquium, held June 11-14 in New Orleans. He is speaking on, “Measuring Child Well-Being in a Sample of Maltreated Children” and “Child Abuse Prevention 101: Definitions, Current Research, and Practical Strategies.”
