Doctoral student Candace Killian-Farrell was awarded the Robin Fancourt Memorial Fellowship from the Child Trauma Academy in Houston, Texas. She is currently completing training in their clinical practice approach–Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics (NMT)– for working with maltreated and traumatized children and adolescents. MSW student Priya Chelladurai is from India, and is deeply committed to women’s rights and to ending violence against women. A 3rd year Triangle DE Program student, Chelladurai was in Laurie Selz Campbell‘s Citizen Participation class last semester, and one of the assignments was to write an advocacy statement from two perspectives — one aimed at legislators and one aimed at community members/citizens. The “community member” version of her piece, “To Indian parents, from an Indian daughter,” was published online by Brown Girl Magazine.

“Writing the community engagement part on the Speak Out assignment that we had in SOWO 882 was such a powerful experience for me, and I knew that other Indian/South Asian girls and women could relate,” said Chelladurai. “I really wanted it out there to be read by other people…”
