Child Welfare Pre-Placement Institute prepares students for internships

A spirited group of 17 diverse and committed students came together during the last days of summer break to attend this year’s Child Welfare Pre-Placement Institute. The 40-hour program, taught by faculty member and doctoral student, Teresa Ilinitch, provides state-mandated, competency-based training to all UNC students preparing for internships in public child welfare agencies.

Prior to joining the faculty in 2009, Ilinitch was a program administrator at the North Carolina Division of Social Services, overseeing the state’s child welfare training system. She uses her experience from this and her 20-year career in child welfare to engage students as they learn current child welfare policy and practice.
