Students showcase talent, celebrate culture at annual Harambee event

Students, faculty and staff gathered on March 4 for the School of Social Work’s annual Harambee multicultural event, which celebrates ethnic, racial and cultural diversity through food, art and performances. Photo Gallery

They showcased a wide array of talents, including dancing, singing, filmmaking, poetry and music; and brought cultural dishes for a potluck buffet.

Presenters included: Yalitza Ramos – African libation; Dean Jack Richman – guitar/mountain music; Sonya Deulina – poetry; Alyse Keefe – clogging; Albert Thrower – screened a music video he created; Karon Johnson – singing; and Hilary Cissokho, her husband Diali Cissokho and Lena Harris – African drumming and dancing.

The event was sponsored by the School of Social Work Student Organization, and coordinated by students Monica Ferenz and Lena Harris.
