I will like to acknowledge the recent accomplishments of final year MSW student and Black Student Caucus Chair, Tamsin Woolley.
During this semester, Tamsin has exemplified the ideals of community engagement, social advocacy, and service by leading fundraising efforts for the Gift for Life Block Walk sponsored by the Sisters Network North Carolina Chapter. For the second year in a row, Tamsin organized UNC students to participate in this event, which aims to provide awareness of breast cancer and breast health needs among African American women.
To promote the event this year, Tamsin organized several fundraisers during October, National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, including “Coffee for the Cure Mondays” and loose change donations, contributing to a gift of $750 to the Sisters Network. Tamsin was also able to recruit over 15 people to participate in the October 18th event in Durham, bringing together first- and final-year MSW students, faculty, graduate students from other disciplines, family members and friends.
As she now works to coordinate a raffle ticket fundraiser to sponsor a family for Thanksgiving, Tamsin continues to be an inspiration to social work students. Thank you, Tamsin, for the dedication and passion you consistently demonstrate for the individuals and communities you touch!
