Caye conducted a webinar, “Violence in the Home: Indicators, Effects & Response,”  for Wake AHEC on April 4.

Jodi Flick conducted a day-long training on “Suicide Risk Assessment, Prevention, and Postvention” for about 80 clinicians at Catawba Valley Behavioral Health on March 26 in Hickory, N.C., followed by a half-day workshop on March 27 for about 50 local clergy on “Caring for Families and the Community after a Suicide.” Flick also led a training on “The Effects of Trauma and Maltreatment on Brain Development” for Mountain AHEC in Asheville on April 4.

Matthew Howard was invited by the Administration on Children, Youth and Families (ACYF), of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, to participate on an expert panel focused on a neuroscience and child maltreatment. This initiative is a joint effort co-sponsored by partners from the National Institute on Drug Abuse and the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development. The in-person kickoff meeting will take place May 3-4, 2012 in Washington, D.C.

Rebecca Macy and alumna Laurie Graham, MSW ’11, have an article in the April edition of the journal Trauma, Violence and Abuse, “Identifying Domestic and International Sex Trafficking Victims During Human Service Provision.”

Gary Nelson and Mary Anne Salmon had an invited commentary published in the N.C. Medical Journal, “Organizing Communities Around Care Transitions: The Community Connections Experience.”
