Carolina Diversity Summit to feature presenters from School

The 2011 Carolina Diversity Summit, “Intersectionality: Exploring Diversity from Varied Perspectives,” will be held on Nov. 18.

This day-long summit will feature a special performance by the Sacrificial Poets, North Carolina’s premier youth spoken word organization, concurrent morning and afternoon breakout sessions on race, ethnicity, sexual orientation/identity, age, disability, gender, socio-economic status. Participants are encouraged to engage with the presenters and make their voices heard on these important issues. The conference will also include a networking lunch.

Travis Albritton, Josh Hinson, Sharon Thomas and Susan White from the UNC School of Social Work will lead a breakout session on “Leading an academic organization to embrace diversity initiatives – The experience of one school.” Amelia Roberts-Lewis will lead a breakout session on “Cross cultural communication: Ethnographic interviewing as a practical tool.”

The 2011 Diversity Summit is sponsored by the Diversity Education Team, the Center for Faculty Excellence, the Carolina Latina/o Collaborative and the Office of Diversity and Multicultural Affairs.
