Faculty briefs: August

Betsy Bledsoe co-authored an article published in July, “Training in structured diagnostic assessment using DSM-IV criteria in social work, psychiatry, and psychology: Data from a national survey of training programs,” in Research on Social Work Practice.

Bledsoe received a one-year grant renewal from the National Institute of Health to support her research on perinatal depression, “Adolescent Perinatal Depression: Addressing Health Disparities in Low-Income Racial/Ethnic Minority Mothers and their Children through Culturally Relevant, Developmentally Appropriate Evidence-Based Services.”

Susie Eguez, Barbara Leach, Sherry Mergner and Kim Strom-Gottfried are presenting at the Seventh Annual Eastern Region Developmental Disabilities Services Conference, Oct. 13-14 in Greenville, N.C.

Shenyang Guo and Mark Fraser’s book “Propensity Score Analysis: Statistical Methods and Applications” (2010) has been listed on the Stata Software Company’s “Top-selling Books on Statistics” for 24 weeks. Every week, Stata Company chooses five books on statistics as the top-selling. Of the 24 weeks, Guo and Fraser’s book was listed as Number 1 for 11 weeks.

Shenyang Guo was invited and conducted workshop on propensity score analysis for the 14th Annual National Human Services Training Evaluation Symposium on June 14, and for the National Data Archive on Child Abuse and Neglect’s Summer Research Institute on June 15. Both workshops took place at Cornell University.

Hye-chung Kum authored a letter (co-written with the director of RENCI, Stanley Ahalt; and the director of Odum Institute, Thomas Carsey) in the journal Science, June 2011, Dealing with Data: Governments Records.

Jean Livermore presented a Greensboro AHEC workshop, “Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder
in Children and Adolescents” on Aug. 4 at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro.

Susan Snyder is doing a poster presentation at the Child Welfare Evaluation Summit in Washington, D.C. at the end of August, entitled “Typologies of Substance Use and Delinquency: A Comparison of Emerging Youth with Histories of Foster Care and the General Population.”

The School of Social Work’s Field Education Office has five papers accepted for presentation at CSWE:
