Scheyett named social work dean at USC

Anna Scheyett, Ph.D., MSW ’89, has been named dean at the University of South Carolina’s College of Social Work.

She will leave UNC mid-July, and start at USC August 1.

Currently the associate dean for academic affairs, Scheyett has been a faculty member since 1993, and connected with our School since she started as an MSW student in 1987.

“It’s hard to put that much history and growth into words,” said Scheyett. “So many people here–faculty, staff and students–have had such a profound impact on me as a social work professional and as a person.  What I’ve learned here is excellent preparation for my new role as dean at USC and I’m very excited.  Yet at the same time I am truly sad to think of leaving my SSW ‘family’.”

“This deanship provides a wonderful opportunity for Anna, and is a real loss for our School and for me personally,” said Dean Jack Richman in an email announcing her departure. “Please join me in congratulating Anna and wishing her well…I know we will all miss her greatly.”

The School is hosting an informal celebration for Scheyett on July 12 from 4:30-6:00 p.m. in the 5th floor lounge. If you can attend or wish to contribute to a group gift, please contact Beth Sauer by July 1 at bhsauer@email.unc.edu or (919) 962-6443.

Faculty member Joelle Powers, Ph.D. has agreed to succeed Scheyett as associate dean for academic affairs.
