Faculty briefs: Caye, Fraser, Grady, Macy, Strom-Gottfried

Joanne Caye, MSW ’82, presented Nov. 10 at the Charlotte AHEC on “Emotional Abuse.” On Oct. 27, she spoke in Clearwater, Fla. at the American Association of Adult and Continuing Education Annual Conference, on “A journey in five voices: Presenting Narrative Research in Non-traditional Ways.”

Mark Fraser, Ph.D. spoke in Sweden Nov. 16 on “How to Design Interventions Which Penetrate Practice,” at the symposium “How to Transfer Public Health Research into Practice.” Organized by the Karolinska Institute, the conference brought together a select group of distinguished international and Swedish researchers to present and discuss key issues. The presentation was well received and they have inquired about future collaboration.

Melissa Grady
, Ph.D. been selected to participate in the 2011 Psychoanalytic and Psychodynamic Teachers’ Academy of the American Psychoanalytic Association, to be held in January in New York City. This was very competitive; only six were chosen to attend from an exceptional pool of candidates.

Rebecca Macy, Ph.D. presented on Nov. 11 at the Southeastern Conference of Foundations 41st Annual Meeting in Mobile, Ala. in conjunction with Phil Redmond Jr., who is the associate director of the Child Care Division at The Duke Endowment. Their presentation was entitled “Collaboration: Practical Applications for Positive Outcomes.”

On Nov. 29, Macy gave a training on “Mental Health and Intimate Partner Violence” for the North Carolina Coalition Against Domestic Violence in Louisburg.

Kim Strom-Gottfried, Ph.D. presented on “Ethics Dialogue and Dilemmas” at the annual conference of the National Hemophilia Foundation in New Orleans on Nov. 11, and on “The Ethics of Social Networking” at the 22nd Annual Leo M. Croghan Conference on Developmental Disabilities in Durham.
