School now offers Peer Support Specialist Credentialing

The School of Social Work’s Behavioral Healthcare Resource Program (BHRP) has a new addition to its product lineup — Peer Support Specialist Certification.

Peer Support Specialists are people living in recovery with mental illness and/or substance abuse and who provide support to others who can benefit from their lived experiences.

Ron Mangum, clinical assistant professor, is in charge of this project for the North Carolina Division of Mental Health, Developmental Disabilities and Substance Abuse Services (MHDDSAS), housed within BHRP. He has been making the rounds of conferences and festivals within the state to promote the program.
