Casalotti lands congressional staff position

Since graduating in December, Adriane Casalotti, MSW/MSPH ’09, has been a congressional fellow in Washington, D.C., working on health policy on Capitol Hill with Congresswoman Lois Capps (D-CA).

Her hard work has paid off. Now she has officially become a full-time congressional staffer — a legislative assistant for Congresswoman Doris Matsui, a Democrat who represents the Sacramento area.

“One of the reasons I think she hired me is because of my social work background,” wrote Casalotti in an email. “She is very committed to mental health and children’s issues, including the National Children’s Study, and I look forward to moving her bills in these areas. Along with health care, I also cover foreign affairs, defense, veterans, and seniors, so the learning curve is steep, but I am excited for the challenge.”

Casolotti also recently found out that her master’s paper topic was chosen for a poster presentation at the 2010 American Public Health Association conference. In addition, she is working with the National Association of Social Workers-North Carolina Chapter President’s Award selection committee (she was the 2010 winner), and trying to take some time to explore the D.C. area.
