Alumnae arm-wrestle for charity

Tonya VanDeinse (MSW ‘o8) and Kristin Lukasiewicz ( MSW ‘o8)  are board members of a group called LUEWWD (League of Upper Extremity Wrestling Women of Durham), which hosts female arm-wrestling tournaments for charity. There are several leagues around the country, and they recently started a Durham chapter.

LUEWWD held its inaugural event June 12, raising $3,795 for the Durham Crisis Response Center. School of Social Work professor Kim Strom-Gottfried was a celebrity judge, Becca Smith-Graves (MSW ’10) was a contestant, and Ben Bradley (MSW ’10)  served as a volunteer. “We also have a lot of representation from other departments at UNC,” said VanDeinse.

The group is planning a fall event and are in the process of selecting a beneficiary.
