Career Day connects students with employers

On Monday, April 12, the School of Social Work hosted its annual Career Day.

Over the course of the academic year, the School of Social Work offers numerous professional development workshops for students to prepare them for the job search. These events culminate with Career Day, which provides an opportunity for our MSW students to discuss employment options with representatives from social service agencies throughout the state. Over 50 agencies attended, as did 70 of our MSW students and 50 undergraduate students from North Carolina BSW programs.

“We are thrilled that so many students took advantage of this valuable opportunity to network with agency representatives, and equally proud,” said Sarah Naylor, assistant dean for student affairs.  “One agency representative described the students as ‘well informed, very presentable, and having a high level of motivation.’ I would like to thank all of the faculty, staff, alumni and students who participated in this year’s professional development events and helped make them possible.”

Following the job fair, an afternoon continuing education workshop was held for recruiters and alumni. Dr. Kim Strom-Gottfried, Smith P. Theimann Distinguished Professor for Ethics and Professional Practice, presented “The Ethics of Social Networking.”
