Career Day -- April 1, 2019

Information for Recruiters

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Social Work is hosting its annual Career Day/Job Fair on Monday, April 1, 2019 from 11a.m.-1:30 p.m. at the School of Social Work. After Career Day, a continuing education workshop will be held at the School of Social Work from 2:00-4:00 p.m.  All human service organizations interested in recruiting students at Career Day are welcome to register and attend.

On Career Day, we invite our own students as well as students from North Carolina undergraduate BSW programs to explore social work career opportunities. Graduates of UNC-Chapel Hill School of Social Work are well qualified, having on average two years of social work experience prior to coming to graduate school. In addition to a curriculum that allows students to concentrate in their area of interest, most students have also had 1200 hours of MSW supervised field practice. North Carolina BSW students come from outstanding BSW programs where students are prepared for beginning-level professional social work positions. Career Day gives agencies an opportunity to recruit MSW and BSW students in Social Work for current and future job openings, and to interest them in your field of service.

The School of Social Work Community, especially the students, are aware of the many changes occurring in human service agencies. The School hopes you will consider participating in Career Day even if you do not expect to hire in the next six months. Your presence and insight are valuable and will provide students with a sense of some of the new directions for human services. Last year over 120 students and over 55 organizations attended Career Day. If you are unable to attend but have some materials that you would like to make available for students, please send them to us at 325 Pittsboro Street CB#3550 Chapel Hill, NC 27599 c/o Beth Sauer, and we will display them at Career Day.

Following Career Day, we have planned a continuing education workshop for recruiters. Karon F. Johnson, MSW, LCSW, will present “Living Ethics: A Cross-Cultural Perspective” from 2-4pm. The workshop will be offered at no cost to recruiters, and the School will provide each participant with a certificate documenting completion of two contact hours at the conclusion of the session. If you would like to attend this workshop, please note your interest during your online registration.

If you are interested in sending a representative from your agency to Career Day, please complete your registration online at the link at the top of this page, before the registration deadline Wednesday, March 12th. Please register as soon as possible; because of limited space, we will accept registration forms for only 55 exhibit booths on a first-come, first-serve basis. We will provide parking and lunch for two agency representatives.  If you would like to bring an additional representative, there is a $10 per person fee. Monique Tuset, Coordinator of Student Affairs along with Beth Sauer, Registrar and Student Services Assistant, will be coordinating this event.  If you have any questions or would like additional information, please contact Ms. Tuset at 919-843-9227 or or Ms. Sauer at 919-962-6443 or

We look forward to your participation in this event!
