  • Disability accommodations to employees, applicants for employment, and visitors to campus (including course participants).

Digital accessibility

The School of Social Work strives to ensure that the School’s websites, online classes and online course materials meet the University’s accessibility standards. If you find materials that do not meet your individual needs, please reach out to us or your instructor so we can do our best to address the issue.

Wellness and mindfulness rooms

The School of Social Work at the Tate-Turner-Kuralt Building offers a wellness room, room 235. The space is stocked with small weights, exercise bands and mats for stretching. The School also offers an adjacent quiet room, room 233, which may be used for many purposes, including decompression from sensory overload, meditation, rest, or prayer. These spaces are available to our community members with an activated UNC One Card with access permissions.  Guests will need to request access from their host. For community access, please contact the Facility Manager.

Interviews and Accommodations

Any skills assessments, including colloquia, that may be conducted as part of an interview process must be approved in advance by the Equal Opportunity and Compliance (EOC) Office. SSW Human Resources will assist you with your skills assessment; please complete a skills assessment request via the HR Intranet.

For employees and supervisors coordinating interviews with potential candidates, please share the following language:
“If you need accommodations, please contact the University’s Equal Opportunity and Compliance Office (EOC) at accommodations@unc.edu. Please forward this email to the EOC and identify the needed accommodation prior to your scheduled interview.”

Candidates may not feel comfortable requesting an accommodation early in the recruitment process. It is important to remember disabilities and differences can be invisible. You are encouraged to design an itinerary that is accessible and inclusive. Providing regular breaks, using breaks in quiet settings, pacing the process to not overwhelm a candidate, enabling closed captioning through Zoom, and sharing a written version of interview questions in advance are some examples of inclusive, accessible interview processes.
