Program: 2-Year MSW
Current job title: Adoption Worker at Carolina Adoption Services and MSW Intern at US Committee for Refugees and Immigrants
How will your MSW degree help you achieve your goals?: My MSW degree from UNC School of Social Work has already equipped me with so many skills to achieve my goals. My plan for the future is to work as a macro-focused social worker with nonprofit agencies serving migrant and global populations. I will work as a humble leader in developing progressive, culturally focused and community-led programs. My goal is also to work with communities in advocating for migrant children and families in areas of language access, equity and human rights.
Why did you choose UNC School of Social Work?: One of the commitments of UNC’s MSW program is to prioritize global engagement. This focus on global interaction is ideal for my area of interest in migrant and global populations. There are multiple faculty who focus their research on global populations and refugees and I have already learned so much from them. The MSW program also provides students with simultaneous learning opportunities in practicum internships and classroom instruction.
What is your “why”?: My “why” in social work is to see the authentic hearts of individuals, groups, communities, and global populations. To advocate for those who are and have been misheard, misunderstood, and mistreated. To help communities recognize their unique strengths.
