Now leading an NIH-funded study with a research team from four universities and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, Assistant Professor Bridgette Thom is working with young adult patients and survivors to co-create the financial literacy resources they need to prevent their medical debt and out-of-pocket expenses from upending their wellness and quality of life.

School of Social Work first-year doctoral student Ally Waters was recently awarded the Graduate Certificate in Participatory Research 2024 Seed Grant Award. Her proposal was titled, “Using Participatory Research Methods to Identify Assets and Opportunities for Diversion and Reentry Services in Rural North Carolina.”
