UNC School of Social Work has extended the application deadline for the 12-month Advanced Standing Program to Feb. 14, with classes beginning May 2023.
The 12-month program is designed for candidates who have graduated from an accredited BSW program, including students who are eager to continue working as they complete their graduate degree. Applicants who are currently employed in social work-related settings, as well as those interested in advancing their macro social work skills are strongly encouraged to apply.
The Advanced Standing Program is structured so that students complete required credit hours during the summer, including courses that target their concentration (direct practice or community management and policy practice). After completing summer coursework, 12-month students join all rising final-year MSW students to complete the specialization curriculum during the fall and spring semesters.
Although the Advanced Standing program gives qualified students the opportunity to complete their degrees more quickly, the program remains as academically rigorous as the School’s other programs and provides students with a high level of support so that they can graduate ready to be change agents and leaders in the field of social work.
“We are fortunate to attract some of the top students in the world to UNC-Chapel Hill and to provide them with a community of educators and learners dedicated to advancing equity, transforming systems, and improving lives,” said Sharon Holmes-Thomas, the School’s assistant dean for recruitment, admissions and financial aid.
