School hosts macro social networking night

Nearly 50 UNC School of Social Work students, alumni and faculty gathered this month for an evening of macro social work networking.

The event, hosted at the Orange County Rape Crisis Center in Chapel Hill, gave students preparing for the job search the opportunity to hear from recent graduates and other professionals about their individual journeys to the macro social work field. Jillian Riley, MSW ’21, the state director of public affairs at Planned Parenthood South East shared the evening’s keynote address.

Other presenters included:

  • Jelani Drew-Davi, MSW ’21, campaign director, Kairos Fellowship
  • Luz Sanabria-Reyes, MSW ’19, bilingual volunteer agency liaison at the N.C. Department of Public Safety
  • Paige Rosemond, MSW ’04, child welfare division director for Wake County Division of Health and Human Services

Students and guests also participated in two roundtable discussions led by macro social workers with experience in policy advocacy, community organizing, management and administration, and more.

The networking night was organized by the School’s Community, Management and Policy Practice Committee and the Macro Caucus.
