UNC School of Social Work launched its new website on Oct. 20, 2020. The new website replaces a website that the School had used for more than 10 years.
“This was more than a redesign — the site was completely rebuilt,” said Karen Kornegay, communications director for the School.
The changes include a conversation from a Drupal platform to the UNC-Chapel Hill standard WordPress platform, a radically different navigation and menu system, responsive design so that the website displays correctly on all devices, and improvements for accessibility.
“We had a lot of feedback from website users going into the project, and we used site analytics to determine which pages were most popular — that really drove the architecture of the new site,“ Kornegay said. “It’ll be easier for site users to find the information they need, especially with the new events calendar, employee directory, and newsfeed.”
Some internal documents previously stored on the website are moving to new locations, including an expanded SSWiS (SSW Information Systems) internal site and a new intranet for the School, she added.
The multi-year project involved collaboration from several entities across the UNC-Chapel Hill campus, including UNC Creative, UNC ITS and UNC Digital Accessibility Office, in addition to the School’s Computer & Information Technology Unit and the communications team.
The new website will use the original URL: http://ssw.unc.edu
