GSDI Brings Digital Economy Expert to UNC

Arun Sundararajan will discuss “The Sharing Economy, The Fourth Industrial Revolution and The Global Future of Work” on Thursday, Jan. 23, 2020, at the Nelson Mandela Auditorium, FedEx Global Education Center, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The lecture begins at 6:30 p.m., with a book signing and reception preceding the lecture at 5:45 p.m.

Sundararajan’s presentation is part of the Michael Sherraden Lecture Series hosted by the Global Social Development Innovations (GSDI) research center within UNC School of Social Work.

Author of the best-selling book “The Sharing Economy,” Sundararajan studies how digital technologies transform business, government and civil society. His current research focuses on platform and AI-driven business models, corporate venture capital, digital governance, digital migration and the future of work.

His lecture will address crowd-based capitalism, highlighting the policy choices for self-regulatory organizations, labor law, and funding our social safety net.

“Dr. Sundararajan is a thought leader in how digital technologies can transform business, government and civil society,” noted Gina Chowa, founding director of GSDI. “We are hoping that his lecture and presence on campus will provide students and faculty [an opportunity] to interact with him and critically examine the utility and potential of digital and shared economies on different segments of populations.”

Sandararajan is the Harold Price Professor of Entrepreneurship and a professor of technology, operations and statistics at New York University’s Stern School of Business. He is a member of the World Economic Forum’s Global Future Council on the New Economic Agenda. He was received two Google Faculty awards, aThinkers50 Radar Thinker Award and numerous awards for academic papers.
