Research findings inspire fundraising campaign for domestic violence housing in Orange County

Long-time School of Social Work supporters and local philanthropists Richardson Preyer and Marilyn Jacobs Preyer hosted a fundraising event on Oct. 27, for the Compass Center for Women and Families, which has launched a $600,000 campaign to develop crisis housing for survivors of domestic violence in Orange County.

The campaign and fundraising event stem from findings from a needs assessment study that School of Social Work faculty members Rebecca Macy and Cindy Fraga Rizo recently completed concerning domestic violence housing services in the county. Macy, who was among the event’s presenters, shared key findings from the study, which was funded by the Preyers.

The project was also recently featured and Rizo was interviewed for a WRAL report that highlighted the connections between housing, homelessness and domestic violence.
