Peter Richard Kramer, MSW ’87, died peacefully at his farm in Hillsborough on Dec. 7, 2014, following a three-year journey with esophageal cancer.
He began his career in mental health at John Umsted Hospital in Butner, and as executive director of Hassle House in Durham. After graduating from the UNC School of Social Work, he served the remainder of his career with OPC Mental Health (now Cardinal Innovations) as a counselor. He retired in 2011 and continued a private practice and stayed active as a volunteer.
Kramer won numerous awards, most notable among them the UNC Diversity Award in 2010 and the Pauli Murray Award in 2011. Obituary
