For the last several years, faculty and staff at the UNC School of Social Work have purchased holiday gifts to help some members of our community who may otherwise have nothing under their trees.
Each year, we receive names and wish lists of people from the Orange County Department of Social Services (DSS) to sponsor for the holiday season. This year we sponsored 12 people, ranging in age from 6 months to 62 years old.
Faculty and staff really came through this year, purchasing over $2,500 worth of new toys and clothes for their neighbors in need. The items were collected for two weeks, then loaded and delivered to the DSS on Dec. 12 for distribution.
This effort was coordinated by the School’s Management Advisory Committee.
