SSW team participates in Relay for Life

A UNC School of Social Work team participated in the American Cancer Society’s annual Relay For Life event on March 28, at UNC’s Fetzer Field.

Relay For Life teams camp out overnight and take turns walking or running around a track or path at a local high school, park or fairground. Events are up to 24 hours long, and because cancer never sleeps, each team is asked to have at least one participant on the track at all times.

Team members included MSW students Christy Pope, Monica Ferenz, Alyssa Elliott, and Mitzy Gonzalez; alumna and adjunct instructor Bridget Weller, Ph.D. ’09; and Professor Natasha Bowen. They raised $2,500, surpassing their $1,500 goal. At UNC a total of 188 teams and 1,325 participants raised $122,853.

Fundraising for this season is ongoing through Aug. 31.
