On June 17, Professor Mark Fraser gave a keynote address at the “Application and Practice of Resilience in Social Work and Outreach Work with High-Risk Adolescents” conference in Taipei, Taiwan. The event was sponsored by the Good Shepherd Society Society of Taiwan.
Fraser spoke on “Risk and Resilience in Childhood,” and also gave a workshop on the Making Choices program, which teaches social problem-solving skills for children.
After the conference, Fraser went out on the streets of Taipei with three youth workers, whose job it is to find street kids and get them off the streets.
“We had dinner together, played ping pong, talked, and walked the streets,” said Fraser. “I can’t imagine how different an orientation to Taipei this was compared to what tourists were getting!”
Fraser is one of several UNC School of Social Work faculty spending some time this summer sharing their knowledge and research internationally.
