Faculty, staff and students walk to support causes

A number of UNC School of Social Work faculty, staff and students recently participated in three walking events to support causes in our community.

Student Rex Mercer organized a School of Social Work team to walk in the Chapel Hill/Carrboro CROP Hunger Walk on Sunday, April 21, which raised money for local and global hunger relief programs.

On Friday, May 3, a group of School of Social Work faculty and staff joined hundreds of other UNC employees in the Spring Fling. The annual employee event–a 3-mile fun run or 1.5 mile walk–promotes health and fitness, and raises canned food donations for a local food bank and pet items for the Orange County Animal Shelter. The event was organized by UNC Campus Recreation. 34 departmental teams participated this year. Photos

On Saturday, May 4, a team from the School of Social Work participated in the NAMI Walk on the campus of Dorothea Dix Hospital, to raise funds and awareness in support of people affected by mental illness. Faculty member Bebe Smith blogged about the walk.
