The Behavioral Healthcare Resource Program (BHRP) at the UNC School of Social Work is pleased to announce an instructor-led, web-based course, Fundamentals for Addiction Counselors, available now on Springboard, BHRP’s online learning portal.
This 8-week course offers 50 NCSAPPB-approved contact hours for $400, which includes the cost of the text, Learning the Language of Addiction Counseling, by Geri Miller and shipping.
The course features seven videotaped lectures by Rachel Henderson, MRC, who has 40 years of experience in the treatment of addiction and mental illness. As both a counselor and a senior executive, Henderson has earned the widespread respect of colleagues and public policy leaders alike. She has received national recognition for her innovative work in developing treatment programs and effective staff trainings. Lecture topics range from disease progression and treatment approaches to case documentation, history and ethical considerations for counselors. Three real-time online meetings offer an opportunity for students to ask questions and receive direct feedback from the instructor, in addition to ongoing email communication and individual attention to coursework.
This course is designed to provide context and insight for your practice as an addiction counselor. While it was developed for practicing counselors, topics also apply to supervisors and managed care professionals. This course provides 50 NCSAPPB approved contact hours towards acquisition or renewal of license or certification as a Substance Abuse Professional.
Registration will be open until Jan. 11, 2013, and the course starts on Jan. 13.
