U.S. Congressman David Price visited on Jan. 10 to find out more about the School of Social Work, who we are and what we do.
Rep. Price met with Dean Jack Richman; and faculty members Mark Testa, Gary Nelson, Rebecca Macy, Gary Cuddeback, Irene Zipper, Sheryl Zimmerman, Natasha Bowen and Mark Fraser. He learned about research activities and service in areas such as foster care, domestic violence, adolescent and adult mental health, military, substance abuse and aging.
Price, a UNC and Yale alumnus, and former Duke University professor, represents the 4th district of North Carolina. He serves on the House Appropriations Committee and is the ranking member of the Homeland Security Appropriations Subcommittee. He is also a member of subcommittees covering housing and transportation and legislative branch appropriations. According to his website, he is supportive of education, accessible health care, affordable housing, clean air and water, and improved transportation alternatives.
The visit is part of the School’s effort to help inform legislators about the research knowledge and engaged scholarship that is ongoing at the School, which can be a great source of information for policy makers as they seek to solve current problems with limited resources.
