Bowen gives conference keynote in South Korea

Kenan Distinguished Professor Gary Bowen, Ph.D., was invited by Dr. Sun-Wha Ok, Professor, Department of Child Development and Family Studies, Seoul National University, and President of the Korean Home Economics Association, to deliver the lead keynote address at the 2011 International Conference on Families as Social Capital.

The May 20-21 conference was attended by senior officials in the Korean government and appropriately 200 scholars from across Korea. Five organizations sponsored the conference, including the Korean Association of Family Relations and the Korean Family Welfare Association.
Bowen spoke on “Family Social Capital and the Success of Middle School Students: An Intervention Research Perspective.”

During his visit, he had dinner with Dr. Joan Yoo, former assistant professor in the UNC School of Social Work. Dr. Yoo is now a faculty member in the Department of Social Welfare, College of Social Sciences, at Seoul National University.
