Laura Pfledderer is a first-year, full-time student in our MSW program. Her concentration is direct practice with an interest in military personnel and families.
A native of San Diego, Calif., Pfledderer graduated from the University of California-San Diego with a bachelor’s in psychology.
“When I was first accepted to this University I was so thrilled, but at the same time I was worried about my financial situation,” she said.
But some much-needed help came when she was awarded the Meehan Scholarship — established by Peter and Prue Meehan of Chapel Hill to support MSW students that enhance the social, economic and cultural diversity of the student body.
“Being awarded this scholarship allowed me to focus more on my studies rather on my worries,” she said. And it enables her to follow her dream of working with military families.
“I want to give back to all our soldiers and families who sacrifice so much for us and our country.”
