Former board of advisors member McLendon dies

L.P. “Mac” McLendon Jr., a longtime Greensboro attorney and former state senator, has died at age 89.

McLendon served in the Army Air Corps in World War II. He joined his father’s law firm in 1948 after finishing law school, served on the Greensboro City Board of Education in the 1960s, and three terms in the state senate.

He has served on various boards, including the board of visitors at Appalachian State University and Guilford College, and the board of advisors of the UNC School of Social Work. He served as president of the N.C. Children’s Home Society and the Greensboro Community Council.
