Academics

UNC School of Social Work offers many paths for students to reach their academic goals, including degree programs, dual-degree programs, and specialized training programs that allow students to focus on a particular area of study.

Coursework at our School is rigorous and evidence-based. You’ll become familiar with both contemporary practices and the historical foundations of social work. In the process, you’ll be challenged to develop your professional skills and abilities to the highest level of performance.

Our students are creative, curious, and caring intellectuals. Our faculty are innovative educators and researchers who engage and inspire students at every opportunity. Here, you’ll find an academic home where you can thrive and prepare to excel in your career.

Our School offers only graduate-level degrees — the Master of Social Work (MSW) and the Ph.D. in Social Work. We do not offer an undergraduate program in social work.
