How Things Work
Advising
Regular consultations between the Ph.D. student and advisor are an essential means to encourage timely and scrupulous completion of the dissertation. Both student and advisor should be responsible for seeing that such meetings take place on a regular basis. (Council of Graduate Schools:21) A good rule of thumb might be biweekly consultations between adviser and student.
