Cultural Employment Specialist
JOB PURPOSE
To advise and guide Spanish or limited English speaking participants in the Employment Re-entry Assistance (ERA) Program for Women to employment through career counseling, employment preparation and training, job development and job placement.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
§ Design and develop a culturally specific employability skills/life literacy curriculum for partner agencies
§ Prepare staff at partner agencies to deliver culturally-specific employability skills/life literacy curriculum to Latino community via lay advocate training model
§ Provide culturally-specific employment counseling and job placement assistance to Spanish or limited English speaking women.
§ Liaise with partner agencies to address culturally-specific questions, issues, and concerns related to employment of Spanish or limited English speaking women.
§ Identify and contact public and private employers in order to develop job placement sites for Spanish or limited English speaking clients; maintain an awareness of local job market and opportunities to assist in providing guidance to clients; arrange for employment interviews, attend job fairs, or perform other training and outreach activities as needed
§ Conduct periodic follow-up with placement sites regarding client’s employment performance
§ Maintain an organized system of records on client employment including client placements and potential job openings
§ Provide regular updates to the ERA Program Manager
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
§ Bachelor’s Degree with studies in Social Work, Human Resources or other related field plus one year of successful full-time experience in cultural diversity activities or programming OR any combination of relevant education, training and experience that indicate successful performance of the essential elements of the position.
§ Excellent verbal and written skills in Spanish and English
§ Good understanding of Latino cultural issues
§ Solid initiative, self management, communications and interpersonal skills
§ Ability to work effectively with people of diverse educational and cultural backgrounds
§ Ability to work in a cross cultural environment and to use appropriate judgment when dealing with sensitive issues.
§ Computer literacy including technical competence with basic software applications
§ Ability to travel within the local metropolitan area for the purposes of meeting with employers and community stakeholders
