Concentrations and Fields of Practice in the Advanced Curriculum

The Advanced Curriculum consists of two concentrations: Direct Practice (DP) and Management and Community Practice (MCP). The Direct Practice concentration prepares students to provide social interventions and services to individuals, families, and groups. The Management and Community Practice concentration prepares students for leadership careers in organizations and community development and for social interventions in larger systems.

The concentrations contain three fields of practice: Aging, Families & Children, and Health & Mental Health. The MCP Concentration offers a fourth field of practice, Broad-based Human Services.

Distributional requirements dictate the selection of required courses; however, students can use electives to customize their curriculum. By selecting electives from DP and MCP, students can pursue learning and career goals related to more than one population or method or they can develop a deeper level of study within a particular concentration.
