Families change, and our understanding of them evolves. To continue learning, the Jordan Institute is involved in an array of activities that encourage dialogue and engage the School of Social Work faculty, staff and students; social workers and practitioners; community activists and decision makers; and families themselves. Through trainings and lectures the Jordan Institute is reaching out, enhancing education and informing practice. SAVE THE DATE September 12-14, 2006, a conference on Connecting Marriage Research to Practice will be held in Chapel Hill, NC. Sponsored by the African American Healthy Marriage Initiative, US DHHS, Administration for Children and Families, UNC Chapel Hill School of Social Work, Jordan Institute for Families and the Annie E. Casey Foundation, the conference will bring together researchers and practitioners to understand current research on healthy marriages and to build a future research agenda. FYI A monthly series of lunchtime lectures and discussions for faculty, staff and students, FYI highlights the activities and findings of some of the projects of the School of Social Work faculty and the Jordan Institute. An acronym for Methods and Analysis Research Seminars, MARS is monthly series where School of Social Work faculty and doctoral students learn advanced methodologies for research. NCPF Annual Public Lecture – Judith Viorst The North Carolina Psychoanalytic Foundation and the UNC School of Social Work Carroll Butts Heins Endowment is pleased to present Judith Viorst, the best-selling author of Necessary Losses and sixteen children's books, including the classic Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day. The UNC School of Social Work Clinical Lecture Series The series
invites area practitioners, students, alumni, and faculty to learn together
from esteemed and innovative clinicians. The series holds monthly lectures
to enhance the clinical curriculum for students, and offer continuing
education for graduates and practitioners. It also aims to foster and
strengthen relationships among area practitioners and clinically-oriented
students, faculty, and alumni. Based on participant feedback, the 2005-2006
series focuses on teaching and sharpening clinical skills. (Two contact
hours will be awarded for each lecture). The UNC Institute of African American Research's Conference The Jordan Institute is pleased to co-sponsor "Youth & Race: Policy and Culture in Social and Academinc Development," a conference presented by the UNC Institute of African American Research on October 22-23, 2004. AHEC Trainings The School of Social Work through the Jordan Institute collaborates with and assists North Carolina’s regional Area Health Education Centers (AHEC) in providing continuing education and training activities for social work, mental health and other human services personnel. CARES Trainings The Center for Aging Research and Educational Services provides continuing professional education for adult services social workers and managers. FCRP Trainings The Family and Children’s Resource Program promotes professional development by delivering job-relevant, competency-based trainings to social workers and child welfare professionals across North Carolina.
