Sweet as Sugar: The Impact of Diabetes and Other Health Challenges on African American WomenA recent study by the Urban League calls African American woman the "backbone of the black family," yet African American women suffer above-average rates of cancer, diabetes and heart disease. This session will focus on one of those diseases, diabetes with a look at what the research indicates and how attitudes, beliefs and risk perceptions can be changed.
2.Been Down So Long It Looks Like Up
This workshop will discuss the challenges of identifying and treating depression and its effect on African American marriage and relationships.
3,5. Till Death Us Do Part: A Look at Violence in African American Relationships
This workshop will explore the cause of the disproportionate rates of violence among women of color and some of the tailored interventions for minority populations. Presenters will discuss the disproportionate rates of violence among youth and what steps can be taken to halt this epidemic.
