Investigate Assessment in Child Welfare Services

Investigative Assessment in Child Welfare Services is a three-day, competency-based curriculum focusing on the knowledge and skills necessary to complete an assessment of a family who has been referred for possible child abuse or neglect. Topics include:

  • Preparing to see the family,
  • Completing a comprehensive investigation of the allegation,
  • Documenting assessment of child safety on an authorized risk assessment tool, and
  • Making decisions regarding substantiation for abuse and neglect.

Investigative Assessment in Child Welfare Services is currently offered free of charge to social workers from North Carolina departments of social services.
