Crossing the Threshold

Crossing the Threshold is a two and one-half day curriculum designed to prepare teams of social workers and foster parents to teach foster parents skills to enhance their work and relationships with adolescents preparing for independent living. The modules in this training address:

  • Values and patterns in families,
  • The impact of separation and loss on attachment and its effect on moving toward independence,
  • The emancipation process,
  • Sexual identity within the context of adolescent development,
  • Learning styles,
  • Caring confrontation,
  • Working in partnership,
  • Life skills,
  • Decision making and goal setting, and
  • Advocacy.
