in Child Welfare Services
Adoptions in Child Welfare Services,
is a three-day, competency-based curriculum focusing on children
awaiting adoptive placement and families who are interested in
adopting children.
Topics covered in this course include
the:
- Policies, laws, and best practice
that support broad-based, community approach to finding families
who are willing, able, and informed about the parenting of children
available for adoption,
- Importance of gathering firm assessment
information about the child's needs and the prospective families
strengths,
- Skills necessary to prepare the
child and family for the adoption experience, and the
- Need for a plan for post-placement
supports for the family to increase permanence.

Adoptions in Child Welfare Services
is currently offered free of charge to social workers from North
Carolina departments of social services. To learn more about class
