Race,
Ethnicity & Culture in Research and Service is an ongoing
lecture series presented by the School of Social Work and cosponsored
by the Frank Porter Graham Child Development Center, the Jordan Institute
for Families, and the National Center for Early Development and Learning.
Past lectures have included "Ready or Not: Educating Young African
American Males" by faculty member Dr. Oscar A. Barbarin III; "In
Their Own Voices: The Lives of Inner City African American Women,"
by Dr. Robin Jarrett of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign;
"Slouching Toward Culturally Competent Research," by Dr. Ana
Mari Cauce of the University of Washington at Seattle; "The Black-White
Gap in Primary and Secondary School Achievement. Can We Close It?"
by Dr. Ron Ferguson of the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard
University; and "Healing the Wounds of Racism," by Ms. Naomi
Tutu of Fisk University. After a summer hiatus, the lecture series will
resume in the fall. |
