Buncombe County Job

Duties & Responsibilities:  Supervisory responsibility of the day to day managing of the Food Assistance Unit at the Buncombe County Department of Social Services. The position supervises, trains and manages Income Maintenance Caseworkers and a Lead Worker. The Income Maintenance staff perform all Income Maintenance functions in-take, processing, reviews, changes etc.).  The position provides detailed needs and analysis and justification reflecting trends in utilization of income maintenance programs. The position evaluates the work and performance of all supervised positions for adherence to Federal and State standards regarding the quality of work required in processing income maintenance cases and maintaining the agency mission. 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:  Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely and to plan and execute work effectively; ability to initiate and install training programs and to evaluate their effectiveness; physical and emotional stamina; Management, planning, training, and organizational skills; Effective communication skills; Thorough knowledge of the Food Assistance Program; General knowledge of personnel policies and procedures; Ability to direct and supervise a staff of employees engaged in a variety of Social Services activities; Basic computer literacy; Must be Creative and flexible; Ability to lead. Must have ability to efficiently and cordially interact with co-workers to accomplish common tasks; ability to efficiently and courteously interact with the employer’s customers, and the ability to function in highly stressful circumstances.  Position will perform duties as a representative of a public agency and is subject to high standards for personal and professional conduct.

Minimum Education and Experience
Graduation from high school plus three years of experience in an Income Maintenance Program.
