Catawba County Social Services is recruiting for a Child Protective Services Social Worker to conduct comprehensive family assessments that will enhance the safety of children and strengthen families. This environment is fast paced, rewarding and requires individuals with high energy and dedication. Investigative Assessments include the initial response to abuse, neglect and dependency reports on children; completing thorough assessments and making immediate decisions regarding the safety of children, establishing protection plans, applying crisis intervention techniques and providing services up front to assure the maximum safety of children which could include court action. Throughout the CPS intervention, you will continuously assess the safety and well-being of identified children. You will initiate a CPS assessment with approximately 10 families each month. Flexibility, working under mandated time constraints and strong organizational skills are needed to meet the needs of these vulnerable families who are in crisis as well as complying with all legal and agency standards. Preference: Experience working with law enforcement and working with families experiencing serious child abuse and sexual abuse related trauma is preferred. We are looking for energetic persons who have a background in CPS and/or a commitment to a career in the CPS field. REQUIRES: Master’s degree from an accredited school of social work with Child Welfare Collaborative; or Master's degree from an accredited school of social work and one year of directly related experience; or a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited school of social work with Child Welfare Collaborative and one year of directly related experience; or a Bachelor's degree from an accredited school of social work and two years of directly related experience; or a four year degree in a human services field or related curriculum including 15 semester hours in courses related to social work or counseling and three years of directly related experience; or graduation from a four year college or university and four years of directly related experience; or an equivalent combination or education and experience. Prefer experience in investigating allegations of child sexual abuse. Also, NCSW is preferred. Must have a valid Driver’s license. This is considered light work; lifting up to 20 pounds.
