Field education is an important component
of the Collaborative. Agencies invest in training students and
are able to directly influence tomorrow’s workforce. Students
benefit by having meaningful assignments that challenge them to
grow and develop their skills.
All child welfare scholars complete at
least one field placement in child welfare at a local DSS. Child
welfare scholars in a BSW program complete a 480-hour practicum;
Masters students complete more than 900 hours in practicum. Between
2000 - 2005 there have been 489 students in field placements in
55 counties and 273 field instructors.

Become a Field Instructor
Inspired Field Instructors are critical partners
in the Collaborative. Through quality field education, Child Welfare
Scholars develop the skills and knowledge needed to become leading
child welfare professionals.
If you have a passion for child welfare, a desire
to share you knowledge, and work in an agency willing to help
foster a student’s development, the Collaborative could use your
help.
For more information on becoming a field instructor,
